Additional treatments offered depend upon the scope of practice of the licensed practitioner and may include:

  • Laser and intense pulsed light procedures
  • Medical microdermabrasions
  • Photo-facials
  • Botox and Restylane injections
  • Medical peels
  • Thermage
  • Fraxel
  • Derma Filler Injections and Botox

History

The origin of the word "spa" comes from the Belgian town of Spa, known since Roman times for its baths. The town was so prominent that the very word spa became synonymous in the English language with a place to be restored and pampered. "Spa" is also an acronym for the Latin phrase, "salus per aquae," or "health through water."

In the 19th century, Europe's great spas were destinations for the wealthy to revive and relax.

The term "day spa" was coined back in the 1980s by Catherine Atzen, upon her entry from France to the U.S.  There is some challenge, from Burke Williams of San Francisco, who also claims to have coined the term.  Today, massages and facials are by far the most popular spa treatments in America.
